The Patriots couldn’t have scripted a more electric start to their preseason matchup against the Washington Commanders.

Rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson fielded the opening kickoff deep near his own goal line, found a seam, and blazed past defenders for a stunning 100-yard return.

In a matter of seconds, New England was on the board with a 7-0 lead. It was a statement opening — and one the Patriots will hope sets the tone for the rest of the night.

Henderson was drafted in the second round as the 38th overall pick by the Patriots out of Ohio State.
