A newly released FBI report shows crime is down in America, but not across the board.

The FBI’s 2024 Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program data, released this week, shows a 4.5% drop in violent crime and a notable 8.1% decline in property crime compared to 2023. It’s a continuation of a broader trend that federal officials say reflects changes in both enforcement and community engagement nationwide.

The sharpest drops are murder and non-negligent manslaughter, which fell by nearly 15%, while robberies with firearms declined 18.3%, according to the report. Motor vehicle theft, a crime that spiked nationally during the early 2020s, dropped by nearly 19%.
