JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — Officials have determined the cause of a home explosion that happened last week in southern Indiana.

The investigation, conducted by Jeffersonville Fire Department, confirmed that the explosion originated from a gas leak inside the house.

The department says it was able to "eliminate" any concern that there was a problem with an external gas line or neighborhood gas infrastructure.

The Jeffersonville Police Department and Jeffersonville Fire Department strongly urge the public:

If you detect an odor consistent with natural gas, immediately exit the structure and contact emergency services via 911. Natural gas contains an additive specifically designed to make it easily identifiable by smell. Many describe it as a sulfur-like smell or a “rotten egg” smell.
