WESTFIELD – Two hours before the Westfield Starfires game against the Nashua Silver Knights on Friday night, fans of all ages gathered inside the auditorium of Westfield Technical Academy.
And for sound reasoning, most waited for an opportunity to have their memorabilia signed and take a photo with former Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon, since he signed a one-day contract with the Starfires .
Once the session was complete, Papelbon exited the school and headed toward the field. And to no surprise, numerous fans continued to enter the parking lot and field with hopes of witnessing Boston’s all-time leader of 219 saves take the mound.
