DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - A DeKalb County police officer is dead after being shot on Friday during an active-shooter incident at a CVS across from the CDC’s main campus near Emory University.

DeKalb County Interim Police Chief Greg Padrick confirmed the officer's death during an 8:30 p.m. news conference.

"This officer responded to the call as he did as he was trained to do it during that incident. He received gunfire and he lost his life in this incident," Padrick said. "He was committed to serving the community.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said the suspected shooter, a white male, is dead and there were no civilian victims struck by gunfire.
