A woman accused of vandalizing a mural and attacking two people in Pilsen is facing hate crime charges.
Danielle Wasserman, 37, was arrested Tuesday and charged with two counts of hate crime, four counts of aggravated battery and criminal damage to property, Chicago police said.
Wasserman allegedly vandalized a mural June 13 near 16th Street and Ashland Avenue. The mural depicts a Mexican man and a Palestinian man resting peacefully in a field. She allegedly painted “Israel” in large letters over the mural, burned off the face of the Palestinian man and spread feces on the wall and sidewalk.
That day, Natalie Figueroa, 42, was riding her bike when she told authorities she saw Wasserman vandalizing the mural while wearing an EMT uniform and confronted her.
