BALTIMORE —

The Jaire Alexander Foundation hosted a back-to-school event in North Baltimore on Friday after the Ravens' first preseason game Thursday night .

"Just a part of giving back and paying it forward. I was 7 years old, coming to a Steve Smith football camp, and he was giving out backpacks, and I would wear that backpack proudly to school. So, why not be a blessing for these kids?" Alexander told 11 News.

The newly formed foundation, created by the Ravens' cornerback, distributed free backpacks filled with school supplies to youth. The event had music, games and family-friendly activities at the Weinberg Y in Waverly.
