AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Our local animal shelters are still seeing an increase in animals coming through their doors.

Both Aiken and Augusta animal shelters are turning to the community for help in the form of adoptions, fosters or volunteers.

Even though most of the summer is behind us, shelters are still strained and need to adopt out more animals.

“I think it’s something we all struggle with, regardless of what shelter you’re with or rescue group. The [adopt] numbers just slow down,” said Crystal Eskola, Augusta Animal Services director.
