OLDHAM COUNTY, Ky. —
Oldham County Schools is introducing a new cellphone policy for students to comply with a Kentucky law that took effect this year.
Under House Bill 208 , school districts must, "adopt a policy to, at a minimum, prohibit student use of a personal telecommunications device during instructional time with specific exceptions."
The school district has adopted two policies for middle/elementary and high schools.
Oldham County high school students will be required to turn off their cellphones/personal devices and put them away during instructional time.
For the middle and elementary students, they will have to keep devices turned off and put away for the entire school day. Officials said this was already a requirement for students.
