A large brown bear roaming through a residential neighborhood near Verdugo Road on Friday morning startled residents and drew a quick response from Glendale police and wildlife officials.
The encounter unfolded around 10:30 a.m. when Glendale resident Rich Pawl came face to face with the bear while walking up his driveway. “I was just walking up the driveway and suddenly saw this large brown bear right in front of me,” Pawl recalled. Alarmed, he immediately called 911 to report the sighting.
Officers arrived on the scene shortly thereafter and were able to spot the bear as well. Pawl said the police were courteous and professional, quickly assessing the situation.
