LECALIRE, Iowa and PORT BYRON, Ill. (KWQC) - The weekend of the 38th annual Tug Fest is underway in both LeClaire and Port Byron.

The Tug Fest is the only event that shuts down the Mississippi River for the tug of war event.

The tug is set to start at noon on Saturday where tuggers will battle it out hand and rope to be named this year’s champion.

Friday evening a variety of events kicked off on both sides of the river before the bi-state firework show on the Mississippi River at 9:30 p.m.

In LeClaire , their theme was “Pirates of the Mississippi” and a parade was held through the downtown beginning at 6 p.m.

Iowa’s Lieutenant Governor Chris Cournoyer was also at the parade.

Port Byron had a variety of events Friday evening, like live music, fair food and carnival rides.
