Recently a police officer from Lorain was senselessly shot and killed while parked to eat his lunch . Days later another police officer, working as a security guard, was shot and killed by a man shown on video carrying an assault type weapon across a plaza in NYC .

A few days ago in my community I saw a disturbing version of our U.S. flag. Instead of the red and white stripes and a field of 50 stars, it had repeating lines of red assault weapons on a white background and pistols in place of the 50 stars.

My fellow citizens, is this the country we want for our children and ourselves? It is a fact that gun violence is the number one cause of death among our children and teens . The gun lobby has held Congress hostage for too long. The time is long past for common sense gun safety leg
