One of Spain’s lesser-known regions is hoping to entice remote workers from Britain and elsewhere to relocate with incentives of thousands of pounds.

The unspoiled Extremadura region of western Spain , on the border with Portugal , is offering people who move there up to €15,000 (£13,000).

The local government initially launched the programme last year, aiming to breathe new life into depopulated villages by drawing in digital nomads from elsewhere in Spain and abroad.

The scheme has two tiers. Remote workers who want to get paid up to €10,000 (£8,660) to move there (with an additional €5,000 (£4,329) after two years), must be either under 30, women, or willing to relocate to a sleepy town of fewer than 5,000 residents.
