The Boston Red Sox beat the San Diego Padres late on Friday night, or early on Saturday morning for fans on the East Coast. The Red Sox offense broke out in the fourth inning, scoring four off the bats of Masataka Yoshida and Wilyer Abreu, as well as a throwing error by Padres starting pitcher Nick Pivetta.
Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman added another run to the score in the fifth inning, and Connor Wong doubled to drive in three runs in the eighth. Yoshida capped it off with a 2-run home run in the ninth inning to end the game 10-2. The Red Sox will face off against the Padres two more times before heading to Texas to face the A.L. West-leading Houston Astros.
