ASHEBORO, N.C. − A seven-run top of the fifth inning by Florence broke a six-all tie with Caguas, Puerto Rico on Thursday as Post 1 kept its season alive with an 18-6 victory at the Southeast Regional.
The game was delayed by inclement weather and did not start until 4 p.m., nearly seven hours past its original start time. Florence (28-5) is scheduled to play the loser between Jacksonville (Fla.) and Troy (Ala.) on Friday at 4:30 p.m., but Thursday's delay could force a change in scheduling.
Jaden Atkinson got things started for Florence in the fifth with an RBI fielder's choice. Miles Trussell walked, driving in another run, and Ryan Coscetti brought home another score with a fielder's choice grounder of his own to second.
