The Missoula County Commissioners placed a $1.8 million mill levy for road and bridge infrastructure on the local November election ballot to increase funding for construction material and support for winning large grants.

The commissioners said during a Thursday meeting that a backlog of road and bridge work has piled up for several years and there are limited ways to fund fixes.

"What we are doing today is giving the choice to the voters of Missoula County," Commissioner Dave Strohmaier said Thursday. "We shall see if they have the appetite to pay $2 a month to at least take an incremental step toward improving our infrastructure."

The ballot measure needs simple majority approval from county residents before it can be added to tax bills in fiscal year 2027, which runs from July 1, 20
