Corbin Carroll and Blaze Alexander homered, Zac Gallen pitched six strong innings, and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Colorado Rockies 6-1 in the opener of a three-game series in Phoenix on Friday.

Carroll's two-run homer, measured at 424 feet, capped the scoring in the fifth inning after Alexander drove in Arizona's first four runs with a three-run double and a homer.

Gallen (9-12) gave up one run and four hits in six innings, his second straight quality start since staying put at the July 31 trade deadline. He had six strikeouts and three walks.

Third baseman Kyle Karros drove in Colorado's run with an RBI single with one out in the second inning, his first major league plate appearance.
