Victory Day is Monday, Aug. 11, in Rhode Island, which means some workers will have a long weekend for the state holiday.
Rhode Island is the only state to celebrate Victory Day, which recognizes the end of World War II with the surrender of Japan on Aug. 14, 1945. The Ocean State has marked the occassion as a state holiday since 1948 on the second Monday of August.
The holiday is distinct from President Donald Trump's Victory Day Proclamation for May 8, 2025 and from his short-lived proposal to rename Veteran's Day as Victory Day.
