Answer : Neatly cut and removed semicircles of leaf sections from rose and other foliage is the work of leaf-cutting bees, sometimes called leaf cutter bees. Most likely you have not seen them at work, but reportedly 63 species of these bees live in Florida. Once the chunk of leaf is removed it is stuffed in stems and limbs of plants where the bees raise the next generation — one to a nest. The bees also include a cake of pollen for the young to use as they mature. Leaf-cutting bees cause minimal damage and help with the pollination of garden and landscape plants. It’s best to ignore the cut leaves as there is no control.
