A Morganton woman will serve time in prison after pleading guilty for drug trafficking.

Chasity Dawn Ross, 36, of Morganton, will serve six to eight years in prison for trafficking methamphetamine by possession following her plea in Catawba County Superior Court on Thursday.

Ross was sentenced after she pleaded guilty to the charge, according to a release from District Attorney Scott Reilly’s office.

In addition to her prison sentence, Ross also will have to pay a fine of $50,000, according to the release.

Ross was charged after Hickory Police Department officers responded to a call about an unresponsive person in a vehicle at a convenience store. When officers arrived, they found Ross in the car with bags of drugs and other paraphernalia, the release said.
