It didn't take long for Amanda Thompson's death become a matter of politics.

The day after the Buff alo mother of four was killed, reportedly by a man who served a 23-year sentence for murder, Buff alo Republican mayoral candidate James Gardner stood across the street from her house and tied her death to bail reform.

"What makes the death and murder of Amanda Thompson an outrage is that it was preventable and it would have been prevented but for the bail law that was championed by legislators in Albany, including Sean Ryan," he said, linking the change in state laws around bail and pretrial detention to the yes votes on the measures of his main rival in the mayoral race, Democratic nominee State Sen. Sean Ryan.
