Thinking back to his start against the Cubs near the end of June, Cardinals rookie Michael McGreevy felt there were some pitches he “gave in” on with the though a strike could lead to some weak contact.

In that start, McGreevy retired the five of the first six batters he faced in his first two innings before he was hit for five runs in the third inning. At the time, the start represented his most troubling showing in the majors.

“I wasn't stoked with the Chicago outing last time,” McGreevy said. “Obviously, it was just one bad inning, but you always have to take learning lessons away from bad outings like that."

The outing provided the 24-year-old with some “confidence” in how he would approach the Cubs lineup Friday night at Busch Stadium.
