When my boys were young, we fought regularly — like many families — over what to watch on television.

My wife and I instituted a seemingly simple and fair solution. Our youngest would choose the first night, and the next time we watched TV the choice would be his brother’s, then my wife’s, and then mine. We congratulated ourselves on our wisdom.
