School cellphone bans to begin statewide this fall

CAPITAL REGION — When students return to the classroom in September, most will be without their cellphone.

State lawmakers in May approved a law prohibiting all internet-enabled devices, including smartphones and watches, throughout the school day, including during non-instruction times. The law — touted as a bell-to-bell ban — offers limited exemptions for students with a medical need and for learning purposes.
