I’ve been asked by many people in Northern Colorado to help explain how to hold elected officials accountable. As a state senator, I hear from folks who are frustrated and want to know what to do when they see misconduct or inappropriate behavior. If people are asking me, it means the process isn’t clear enough. That’s a problem I can help fix.

Colorado has three main tools for addressing misconduct by lawmakers. Legislative ethics rules, found in Senate Rule 43 and House Rule 49, cover behavior tied to a legislator’s role. This includes harassment, intimidation, misuse of staff or resources, or misconduct that happens anywhere while they are in office.
