When the Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner Erika McEntarfer released data on the faltering economy, she presented a strong case that the U.S. economy was in trouble. The reckless nature of Trump’s tariffs caused uncertainty on Wall Street and investors had clearly begun to limit new hiring.

These are exactly the statistics that businesspeople and policy makers need to make wise corrections. On the other hand, Trump is not about good economic policy. He is laser focused on his own popularity. He fired McEntarfer. This is the equivalent of a coach trailing in a basketball game – and getting rid of the referee.
