The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has identified the gunman who opened fire outside the Centers for Disease Control headquarters near the Emory University campus on Friday afternoon as Patrick Joseph White, 30, of Kennesaw.

Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said during a Friday evening press conference that White was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds on the second floor of the building that houses a CVS pharmacy at 1600 Clifton Road. Schierbaum said it was unknown if the wounds were from police returning fire or self-inflicted.
