WASHINGTON — Former GOP Congressman Jerry Carl has filed to run for Alabama’s First Congressional District, according to an FEC filing , ahead of Rep. Barry Moore’s expected announcement that he will run for U.S. Senate.
On Thursday, Carl filed a statement of candidacy for 2026 to run for the seat he lost to Moore in 2024 in a bitter Republican primary for the newly redrawn south Alabama district. Moore is expected to leave his seat at the end of the term and run for U.S. Senate. He will make a “big” announcement on Aug. 15.
A representative for Carl had no comment on Thursday.
Carl teased his own announcement “coming soon” in a post on X Wednesday. He’s not expected to officially announce his candidacy until after Moore’s event next week.
Carl served in Congress from 2021 to 2025
