A 17-year-old has been detained following a shooting that injured three people in Times Square early Saturday morning. The incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. near the intersection of 44th Street and 7th Avenue, close to popular locations like the Hard Rock Café and Carmine's Italian Restaurant.
According to police, the shooting stemmed from a dispute between the suspect and a 19-year-old male. The victims include an 18-year-old woman, a 19-year-old man, and a 65-year-old man. The 19-year-old was shot in the right foot, the 65-year-old was hit in the left leg, and the 18-year-old was grazed in the neck. All three were transported to Bellevue Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities have not disclosed the nature of the dispute or whether the suspect and victims were acquainted. A total of three shots were fired during the incident, and the firearm used has been recovered at the scene. As of Saturday morning, no charges had been filed against the suspect, and the investigation is ongoing.
Video footage from the scene showed a chaotic environment with a significant police presence. First responders were seen assisting the victims, and one man was observed lying on the ground before being taken away on a gurney. A woman, visibly distressed, exited a nearby SUV but did not appear to be injured. Police have not confirmed if any occupants of the SUV were among the victims.
This incident is not the first instance of gun violence involving teenagers in Times Square. Earlier this year, a 15-year-old was arrested for allegedly shooting a tourist and firing at police while fleeing. In another incident in April, a food cart vendor was shot nearby after a dispute with a group of young people.
