ATLANTA ( WANF /Gray News) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has released the identity of the man accused of opening fire near the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Emory University Friday afternoon.

Investigators identified the suspected shooter as Patrick Joseph White, a 30-year-old from Kennesaw.

“There is extensive evidence to collect due to the complex scene. Numerous interviews are being conducted,” the GBI said in its statement. “This investigation will take an extended period of time.”

Law enforcement said the gunman died in the shooting. It was not immediately known if the suspect was killed by officer gunfire or if it was self-inflicted.
