CHICAGO — These are the moments where NFL rookies first make a name for themselves in the pros for their play on the field and not because of their draft projection or college accolades.

Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel remembers running back De’Von Achane, now entering his third season, catching a touchdown in a joint practice with the Atlanta Falcons as a rookie. The team’s quarterback cam captured Skylar Thompson telling fellow backup quarterback Mike White, “It was De’Von, the running back,” indicating “De’Von” alone wasn’t enough yet to differentiate the player who would set a yards-per-carry record that regular season.

Last year, it was first-round pick Chop Robinson with strong, competitive reps against talented Tampa Bay Buccaneers tackle Tristan Wirfs.
