Imagine this: A parent in Northern Michigan is told their suicidal teen has no place to go because there are zero youth psychiatric beds in our region. An adult in crisis is handcuffed and driven four hours downstate in the back of a police car because there are no local inpatient beds. Or worse, they’re kept in an emergency room for days, isolated, untreated, and re-traumatized.
That’s not just inefficient. It’s inhumane.
