ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The first day of school is just a few days away, and there are some changes parents and students should know.

A new law that took effect this year is changing when some students can use their phones.

Students are allowed to have a phone with them, but usage depends on grade level. Pinellas County Schools said their biggest change is to its elementary and middle school students .
