David Lammy has told JD Vance that a ceasefire must take place in Ukraine before any other steps towards peace are implemented, according to reports.

At a meeting in London, Britain’s Foreign Secretary – along with France, Germany, Ukraine and other European powers – said their plan must serve as a framework for talks in Alaska between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump on Aug 15.

They rejected the Russian president’s proposal for a ceasefire in exchange for Ukrainian-held parts of Donetsk, the Wall Street Journal said.

The European countries and Ukraine are said to have come up with a string of requirements which must be applied before any negotiations begin with Moscow.

These include demanding a ceasefire be put in place before any talks begin and that Russia must match any territoria
