GRANVILLE, N.Y. (WCAX) - Showing off a shared history of slates, with a neighboring state.
The Slate Valley Museum offered a free day of activities for guests to explore.
Those included new exhibits and demonstrations that highlight the importance of slates and tool creation.
The space is used to show off historical tools and products surrounding slate quarries, spanning the border of southern Vermont and New York.
The interior is made from parts of an old barn. Curators say other industries also played a big role in the region.
“We have a blacksmithing demonstration, and a woodworking demonstration, things that actually were prevalent to the slate industry,” Matthew Lynch, Slate Valley Museum Curatorial Assistant said. “The supply chain was very difficult, so a lot of slate quarrie
