Burley right fielder Jackson Funk only had one goal when he stepped to the plate against the Bozeman (Mont.) Bucks in the bottom of the sixth with the bases loaded and the game tied 7-7.
“My first thought was I’m getting on base,” Funk told the Times-News . “I’m not striking out. I’m not going to watch anything, I’m getting on base.”
He meant anything. The first pitch hit Funk just below his elbow, and he trotted down to first base while Casen Cooper jogged home for the game-winning run.
In a back-and-forth game, the Green Sox were the last to rally, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth to beat the Bucks 8-7 and stay alive in the American Legion Northwest Class A Regional Tournament.
Burley (38-6) will play on Sunday at 4 p.m., the opponent has yet to be announced. Bozeman (
