The Long Beach Island Grade School in Ship Bottom closed its doors for good after the final day of classes in June and will soon be demolished to make way for 21 single-family homes.
The closure of the 74-year-old school came after a years-long debate involving local leaders, the community and the Long Beach Island Consolidated School District on the future of the school and its counterpart, the Ethel Jacobsen Elementary School in Surf City.
