In the closing laps of Saturday's Mission 200 at the Glen, Austin Hill looked outside of Michael McDowell on the exit of the carousel for the second position to have his chance to hunt down race leader Connor Zilisch.

The exit of Turn 5 at Watkins Glen International, referred to as the Outer Loop in IMSA and the Carousel in NASCAR, has no "out of bounds" rule since NASCAR does not traditionally run the "boot." McDowell went wide and Hill went wider. As the track quickly narrowed, Hill turned to avoid the wall but misjudged his distance to McDowell, clipping the rear end of his car.

The contact hooked McDowell into the left guard rail, bouncing his car across the track to the right side, and ricocheting back to the left before coming to rest.
