EastEnders actress Maisie Smith recounted a narrow escape after the property she and boyfriend Max George were due to stay at in the South of France was engulfed by flames.

The ex-Walford favourite opened up about the alarming incident on Sunday Brunch (August 10). Luckily, the duo had not yet reached their holiday abode when the blaze erupted, prompting a last-minute change in their travel itinerary. Maisie confirmed that she and Max ended up lodging at an alternative residence nearby their initial vacation spot – though it proved less than perfect for the starlet.

Maisie was quizzed on the topic after Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer had wanted to know why their Channel 4 crew had struggled to reach her before the programme. They had been informed that the TV star had "gone off grid"
