It was nice to see Traverse City rally around the victims of the mass stabbing at their local Walmart, but the method that many businesses chose to show “support” was at best misguided and at worst dangerous. Many establishments chose to honor not only the good Samaritans who were there and acted quickly, but also any other citizens who have a concealed pistol license. “Thank yous" such as free food and coffee were offered to any people responsible enough to have a gun “safely” on their person.

This is the “good guy with a gun argument,” that the NRA has been using to stop gun safety legislation and increase gun sales for quite some time. Common sense alone should
