Perhaps there was a point and time where System of a Down was considering a new lead singer to replace Serj Tankian. It got close to an audition, but guitarist and vocalist Daron Malakian ultimately elected not to follow through.
In Tankian’s memoir, “Down With The System,” the singer/songwriter let his bandmates know in 2017 that they should audition new lead singers as his desire to tour was low. System of a Down continues to tour to this day (with upcoming shows at MetLife Stadium Aug. 27 and 28), but hasn’t released a new album since the double-sided “Mezmerize” and “Hypnotize” in 2005.
