DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A 14-year-old boy is in custody after a 17-year-old was shot and killed in DeKalb County last month, police said. Authorities announced the arrest on what would have been the victim's 18th birthday.

The shooting happened in the 600 block of Watling Lane on July 24. DeKalb County Police officers responded to the scene and found the victim, later identified as Deonte Brown, with serious injuries. Brown would have turned 18 years old on Friday.

Brown died from his injuries, according to the police department.

The suspect’s name has not been released because of his age. He is charged with murder and armed robbery.

Officials have not released specific details about what led to the shooting.
