Israel’s full occupation of Gaza City will be completed “fairly quickly”, Benjamin Netanyahu has said at a press conference on Sunday.

Mr Netanyahu claimed the full occupation of Gaza City is the “best way to end the war” as he spoke ahead of an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council later on Sunday.

"Our goal is not to occupy Gaza, our goal is to free Gaza," he said.

"The war can end tomorrow if Hamas lays down its arms and releases all the remaining hostages."

The Israeli PM began his press conference by outlining his five-step plan to end his war in Gaza.
