A man has died after climbing over a fence along the rail line through Plymouth late on Saturday night.

Witnesses have told PlymouthLive that a large number of emergency vehicles attended the scene - confirmed by police as being along Old Laira Road in Lipson - at 11.43pm on Saturday, August 9.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed they were requested to attend the scene by British Transport Police at 11.47pm after reports of a man who had climbed over bins to scale fencing and had begun to walk down the tracks.

The man was struck by a train, understood to have been travelling from London Paddington station to the South West, suffering fatal injuries.
