Cherry Hill Post 372’s attempt at a first-ever berth in the American Legion World Series fell one game short, with its dreams shattered by a smoking hot-hitting team from Chesapeake, Virginia.

Chesapeake scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back in beating Cherry Hill, 10-6, during Sunday’s Mid-Atlantic Region championship game in Ridge, Maryland.

In winning, Chesapeake now advances to the American Legion World Series Aug. 14-19 in Shelby, North Carolina.

Cherry Hill had advanced to the Mid-Atlantic Regional by beating Brooklawn, 6-5 in the New Jersey American Legion championship. Had Cherry Hill lost that game, another would have been played in the double-elimination state tournament.

Brooklawn was the last New Jersey team to appear in the American Legion World Series
