NEW YORK (WABC) -- It was a violent night in New York City, with several boroughs burdened by gunfire in the middle of the night. There were six shootings in six hours -- two of them deadly.

In the backdrop of the bloody weekend, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch touted a sharp drop in gun violence in the month of July.

At St. Barnabas Hospital, three victims from one of the Saturday into Sunday overnight shootings are recovering. Two women ages 22 and 32 were taken there by ambulance. The third victim is a 37-year-old man who got himself there. They are all expected to survive.

Two other victims in Brooklyn did not survive.

A 911 call about an assault on Crotona Parkway near East Tremont Avenue led police to two women who had been shot -- one in the arm, the other in the back.
