Older drivers face losing their licences if they fail new eyesight tests planned by the Government.

Ministers are planning a major overhaul of driving rules that could see thousands of people taken off the roads.

All drivers aged over 70 - born before 1955 - could face mandatory eye tests.

People currently have to renew their licences every three years from when they turn 70, and now vision tests could become part of this process.

It comes amid rising concern around the safety procedures currently in place relating to older drivers.
