The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued a warning over urinary tract infections (UTIs) and how they could potentially become a "life-threatening" condition that is more prevalent during the summer. While UTIs are more likely to affect women, 1 in 5 men will still experience a UTI at some point in their lives.

A new study by LloydsPharmacy Online Doctor revealed 26% of men said they had experienced a UTI and 25% didn’t realise it was possible for men to get UTIs. 27% were unsure what UTI even stood for.

Dr Bhavini Shah said: “It’s really common for men to confuse the symptoms of a UTI with those of an STI - and the numbers show just how widespread the uncertainty is. Overlap does exist, which is why testing is essential when symptoms are present.”
