A man has been pronounced dead at the scene of a pond in South London, the Met Police has said.

Officers were called this morning (August 11) to the Three Kings Pond in Mitcham, following a concern for the welfare of a man who was seen in the water. At the scene, a man was pronounced dead, the Met Police has said.

A spokesperson for the Met said just before 12pm today that a scene at the pond remains in place, and enquiries are currently ongoing to locate the man's next of kin.

The Three Kings pond can be found not far from the town centre of Mitcham. AA spokesperson for the Met Police said: "Police were called at 9.45am on Monday, August 11 to Three Kings Pond, Mitcham following the concern for welfare of a man in the water."
