UPDATE: A Hamilton County grand jury has charged a man in connection with a deadly shooting on Maryland Street in August of 2023.

According to the indictment that was handed down on July 28, 2025, 22-year-old Caleb Jeremy Askins is charged with the following:

Conspiracy to Commit Reckless Endangerment- Deadly Weapon

Facilitation of First Degree Murder

Facilitation of Reckless Endangerment - Deadly Weapon x3

Conspiracy to Commit First Degree Murder Premeditated

Askins' charges come after Chattanooga police said they found a 48-year-old shooting victim on the porch of a Maryland Avenue home, shortly before midnight on August 29, 2023.

The man, whose name was not released, later died at a hospital.

Askins, who was 20-years old at the time, was one of four suspects arrested.
